Lowe's worker dies after being hit by garage door | Business
CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Police have released the name of worker who was killed in an accident at a home improvement store in south Charlotte Sunday morning.
The incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. at the Lowe's home improvement store at 217 Iverson Way located off South Boulevard in the city's South End area.
The accident happened in a storage building where customers are not allowed.
According to the police report, the victim is 35-year-old Richard Thomas Yoost of 2202 Crosstail Ridge, Rock Hill, SC.
The police report says Yoost was underneath the garage door when it fell down and struck him in the head.
Yoost was transported to Carolinas Medical Center where he died at 10:53 a.m.
"We are saddened by Sunday's tragic death of a long-time Lowe's employees at the Lowe's of Central Charlotte," said Lowe's spokeswoman Karen Cobb.
Representatives from Lowe's immediately notified OSHA after the incident occurred on Sunday.
"Representatives of OSHA and Lowe's are at store today [Monday] working together to conduct an investigation into the incident," Cobb said. "This is standard when a work-related death occurs."
This store opened in 2008 and Cobb said the employees at the store are "extremely close."
A counselor will be at the store all week to assist any worker who needs grief counseling.
